Church activities were suspended on Sunday in Eda-Oniyo Ekiti, the headquarters of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, as residents stayed indoors to mourn a pastor reportedly killed by bandits.
All fifteen churches in the community were shut in honour of the deceased and in solidarity with families affected by last Tuesday’s attack on Christ Apostolic Church, CAC Number Two, Eda-Oniyo.
Places of worship affected include the Anglican Church, Christ Apostolic Church, Deeper Life Bible Church, Seventh-day Adventist Church, Hope of Life, Cherubim and Seraphim and the Assemblies of God Church, among others.
Some of the affected families are still counting their losses following the attack.
Meanwhile, residents who spoke on condition of anonymity said efforts are ongoing to secure the release of those abducted during the incident.
It was earlier reported that sixteen women, one child and two toddlers were kidnapped by the gunmen.
