A commercial motorcyclist is currently receiving treatment in hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a road crash at the Okesa area of Ado-Ekiti on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred around 11:00 a.m., shortly after the monthly environmental sanitation exercise ended.
Eyewitnesses said the motorcyclist was hit by a car after he allegedly rode recklessly and ran the red light at the busy Okesa junction.
Initial panic spread among sympathizers at the scene as the rider lost consciousness on impact. Many feared he had died. However, he was later resuscitated by first responders and rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he is now responding to treatment.
Witnesses blamed the crash on impatience and disregard for traffic rules
Some claimed the motorcyclist was riding without both hands on the handlebars before the collision.
“This junction records accidents almost every week because of impatience,” said a trader who witnessed the incident.
The Okesa Division of the Nigeria Police Force has commenced an investigation into the crash. Authorities are yet to release the identity of the victim or the driver involved.
