The Alumni Association, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (AAFUOYE), has commended the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, for the successful conduct of a free, fair and credible studentsโ€™ union election.

The association, in a statement issued on Monday, described the exercise as a reflection of the universityโ€™s commitment to transparency, accountability and institutional innovation.

It noted that the adoption of an online voting system for the election, building on the legacy of the previous administration, has strengthened confidence in the democratic process among students while promoting inclusiveness and credibility.

โ€œThe peaceful, transparent and credible exercise, conducted through the universityโ€™s online voting platform, is a testament to FUOYEโ€™s commitment to innovation and institutional excellence,โ€ the statement read in part.

According to the alumni body led by its Global President, Ojo Taiye Adebisi (Capt.), the process goes beyond electing student leaders, as it serves as a practical platform for instilling democratic values such as responsibility, fairness and active participation among students.

The association further expressed solidarity with the Vice-Chancellor and the university management over recent policy decisions aimed at repositioning the institution as a globally competitive and technology-driven university.

It highlighted ongoing efforts by the management to strengthen digital transformation, improve academic standards, promote research and innovation, and enhance institutional systems.

The alumni body stated that such reforms, though sometimes challenging, are necessary for the long-term growth and sustainability of the university.

โ€œThe administrationโ€™s emphasis on innovation-driven governance and academic excellence reflects a clear vision for a university prepared to compete favourably in the global academic space,โ€ the statement added.

The association also admonished students and graduates of the university to remain worthy ambassadors of the institution by upholding values that protect and enhance its reputation at all times.

It stressed that the image of the university is a collective responsibility, urging members of the FUOYE community to conduct themselves with integrity, discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility both within and outside the campus.

According to the alumni body, as beneficiaries of the institutionโ€™s growing reputation for excellence, students and graduates must consciously project positive values that reflect the standards and ideals of the university, noting that individual actions ultimately shape public perception of the institution.

The association, therefore, urged members of the university community to support the ongoing reforms, noting that collective commitment was essential to sustaining the institutionโ€™s progress.

It also reaffirmed its readiness to partner with the university in advancing its vision and preserving its legacy of excellence.
