Sunday Dare, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Public Communication and Orientation, has criticized Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president, and called on him to apologize to Nigerians.
In a statement posted on his X (Twitter) platform, Dare called Obasanjo’s administration the most corrupt in Nigerian history. “Obasanjo has no moral right to condemn any government,” he said, adding that he should apologize to Nigerians for failing to build the infrastructure that Nigeria needed to progress.
Recall that Obasanjo claimed that Nigeria is a “failing state” under President Tinubu’s rule in his keynote address, “Leadership failure and the state of corruption in Nigeria,” which was given at Yale University, a prestigious American university, as part of the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum.
“A country’s likelihood of experiencing chaos, insecurity, conflict, and disunity increases with its level of immorality and corruption. Obasanjo continued, “Nigeria’s failing state status is confirmed and clearly visible for everyone to see.”
In addition, he had demanded that Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and all other commission officials be fired in order to reform Nigeria’s electoral system. “It is imperative that we make sure the INEC Chairperson and their staff are thoroughly vetted,” he said.
Dare was offended by Obasanjo’s speech and said that it was not sincere, adding that democracy was mortally wounded while he was in power.
