

…As Labour Awards Minister of Women Affairs, Director General, National Centre for Women Development.
The National Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, who is also the National President of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday, has called for the inclusion of women in programs of action that can further better their lots in all schemes.
Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday made this assertion on Thursday during a one-day Empowerment Train the Trainers program for both national officials and state chairpersons of the Nigeria Civil Service Union National Women Commission, held at the Nigeria Civil Service Union, Federal Council Secretariat (Federal Might), Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
The Women Empowerment/Train the Trainers program, with the theme “FOCUSSING ON WOMEN FOR A BETTER FUTURE,” was an offshoot of the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration.

According to the National President, “the program is meant to bring together all National Women Commission Executive Members and the State Women Committee Chairpersons from across state/federal councils of the union so that the workshop/training will enhance our collective efforts to advance gender equality and create a more inclusive environment.”
As part of the highlight of the program, the national leadership of the union presented awards to both the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Honourable Hajiya Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, as “Matron of the Nigeria Civil Service Union NCSU Women Commission in Nigeria,” and Hon. Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir, Director General, National Centre for Women Development, as “Pillar of Womanhood in Nigeria,” to celebrate and identify with women at the policy decision-making level.
The National President declared that the vision and mission of the current national leadership are to ensure that the mandate given by members of the union across the country is used to enthrone legacy capital projects and promote human capital development that can drive the union to the next level and imprint a good reference point for future leaders.
Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday opined that as national and state officers of NCSU, they have greater roles to play in making their members produce their best. They are duty-bound to educate members on government policies and decisions, especially those affecting their welfare and career developments.
The Labour Leader further admonished public servants to do more research to know about career opportunities in the public service. Members should be adequately exposed and encouraged to equip themselves for intra-cadre transfer. As leaders of trade unions, they need to equip themselves for modern trade unionism challenges.
Earlier, the Acting General Secretary, Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga, presented an overview of the empowerment program, describing it as worthwhile and expedient due to Nigeria’s current economic trajectory. He appreciated the National President for providing good leadership with passion and commitment.
