We’ve added value to Ekiti health Sector…Global Fund

…seeks more awareness on TB, HIV, Malaria by government

The State Advocacy Group working on the Global Fund C-19RM/RSSH Grant has confirmed that an appreciable value has been added to the Ekiti Primary Health Care facilities in the areas of staff welfare, infrastructure, provision of social amenities and building the confidence of people in the system.

This was made known by the group during a press conference in Ado Ekiti where the successes recorded within the last eighteen months was announced.

The  C-19RM/RSSH Grant is a project sponsored by Global Fund with the aim of mobilizing communities to take ownership of primary health facilities in their areas and complement government’s efforts towards enhancing their capacities.

At the briefing held at the  Environmental Development and Family Health Organization, EDFHO, Ado Ekiti, Chairman of ACOMIN, Sir Olu Ogunrotimi affirmed that the purpose for the grant was achieved.

According to him, virtually all the primary health centres under the project witnessed incredible turnaround which translated into better service delivery and patronage.

He called for an improved advocacy and awareness by  government on Tuberculosis, Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) and Malaria in order to ensure a better success in the fight against  diseases in the state.

He said, “The Community-Led Monitoring Initiative being implemented in Ekiti State has provided drugs and hospital equipment at Basic Health Centres in the councils under the project.

Speaking on the sensitization measures, he said that, efforts have been put in place to motivate public patronage of the primary health centres, asserting that, health centres without patronage will be tantamount to waste.

Also speaking at the Conference, the State Coordinator of the Society For Women and Aids in Africa Nigeria (SWAAN), Ekiti State Chapter, Dr Mary Adeyanju, said the advocacy carried out by the team had aided synergy between the primary health centre and the state health institutions.

“The functionalities of the primary health centres are improved because of this Network project. Health workers now know that they are accountable to the people and government.”

Also speaking is the Director of HIV Testing Service, Folami Dele Margret affirmed that the Initiative had  reduced HIV/AID, Malaria and Tuberculosis in the State .
