We never fired any shot at Atikankan…Ekiti Amotekun Corps clears air

…confirmed attack on four officers

The commander, Ekiti State Security Network, codenamed, Amotekun, Rtd Brigadier Joe Komolafe has confirmed that the reported gunshots at Atikankan area on Thursday was not fired by his men.

Rtd Brigadier Joe Komolafe while addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti noted that the gunshot was from some criminals hired by some traders to forestall the process of relocating them from the area to the new market built by government.

He noted that four of his men were seriously injured while three operational vehicles were badly damaged.

The commander noted that his men were invited by government to assist in ensuring orderliness in the process of relocating the traders with the hope of decongesting the areas.

According to him, it has been a very peaceful exercise since Monday until it got to the turn of Atikankan traders which he said was occupied by criminals and drug barons.

He noted that during the exercise, his men were not armed because they never envisaged any crisis but unexpectedly the aggrieved traders and the criminals attacked them adding that one of his men was held hostage for hours before he was rescued.

Rtd Brigadier Joe Komolafe also denied the speculations that a trader died during the incident, saying he was not aware but noted that if such was true it must be from the gunshot fired by the criminals.

” We had no clash, it was a case of attack, if it was a clash, it would have been a worst situation he said.

He promised that the corps would not be discouraged with the incident as it would continue to operate within the ambit of the law to make Ekiti safer.
