The Multiple Council Chairperson of the Six Districts of Lions Clubs in Nigeria, Lion Samuel Abiola has called on government to engage the use of technology in ending insecurity in the country.

Abiola stated this at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti heralding the three-day International District 404-B2 Nigeria Convention Ekiti Kete 2024 with the theme: “Serving Together to Succeed in the Land of Honour.”

According to him, the federal government should commit more resources to the security agencies to get necessary devices as demonstrated in developed countries and also incorporate local vigilante groups into the security apparatus.

On the issue of the economy, he noted that part of their activities at Lions Club is to bring succour to the people through the distribution of food items adding that they only complement and collaborate with government in reducing the economic hardship in the country.

On his part, District Governor of Lions Club District 404-B2, Lion Emmanuel Fagbohun said one of the objectives of the convention is to create more awareness about its activities to people of the state and train members on how to be better leaders.

He noted that Lions Club gives opportunity to its members to volunteer locally or internationally, make new friends and professional connections and lead projects that will make the society a better place.

While appealing to residents of the state to join the club towards helping humanity, he revealed that they intend to grow its membership, create capacity building for its members and elect new leaders of the association.

Similarly, Lion Ademola Ademoye said that the association had mapped out plans to rebuild a section of the Ophthalmology Centre at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital and also equip the centre so as to provide better eye treatment services.

Some of the projects carried out by Lions Clubs in Nigeria include; Lions Diabetes Screening and Treatment Centre at EKSUTH, Building and donation of Female Hostel Block at the School for Special Needs in Ilorin Kwara State, Millennium Eye Centre, University of Medical Sciences, Akure Ondo State, Diabetes Screening and Treatment Centre Igando, Lagos State, Diabetes Screening and Treatment Centre Ede, Osun State among others.
