The Assistant Inspector General, AIG, of Police in Zone 17, comprising Ondo and Ekiti states, Adebowale Williams on Thursday tasked officers of the Ekiti State Police Command to tackle crime in the state and be dedicated to duties.
AIG Williams, who spoke during a familiarization tour to Ekiti State called on officers of the State Police Command to work harmoniously with sister agencies in combating crime.
According to Williams; “We are very intelligent officers. Get evidence because you don’t go to court to talk but present evidence. As police officers, try and always have evidence because the way we are, nobody listens to us, nobody wants to know whether you are saying the truth or not but once you present that evidence, you will be respected.
“It’s not because you are the only one doing it but others that are assisting you. Try your best, accommodate everybody, keep it down and let’s continue to enjoy peace.
“As the leading agency, when crime is low and there is peace, they will say police is working. It is your responsibility. Be smart and work with other security agencies.”
AIG Williams tasked officers and men of the command to create a cordial relationship with members of the public for effective community policing across the state.
On welfare of police officers serving in the command, the AIG reiterated the readiness of the Inspector General of Police to prioritize their welfare for effective service delivery.
Earlier in his speech, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Dare Ogundare, described Ekiti State as the most peaceful state in the southwest region of the country.
He pledged the continuous readiness of the police in the state to safeguard the lives and property of residents and make the state a good harbitant to live.
The Commissioner lamented over what he called incenssant transfer and shortage of police officers serving in the State while using the ocassion to solicit for the deployment of more personel to the command.
