Two Killed in Ogun Cult Clash

A late-night clash between rival cult groups in Ilese, Ijebu-Ode, left a police officer and a passerby dead on Saturday, throwing the community into fear.

Residents said the violence started around 10 p.m. when suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities stormed the area and opened fire.

A police officer identified as Olamilekan, serving at the Obalende Division in Ijebu-Ode, was killed on the spot, along with another man who has yet to be identified.

A community source, who asked not to be named, said the attackers shot sporadically as people ran for safety. “The whole area was in panic. They came in, fired shots everywhere, and two people died instantly,” the source said.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed the incident on Sunday, noting that he was still waiting for a full briefing from the officers on ground.“I can confirm that a police officer was a victim in the incident. I am still waiting for details of what happened,” he said.The community remains tense as authorities continue investigations.
