The Tinubu Grassroots Network (TGN) has distributed learning materials to students in Ekiti North Senatorial District as part of activities marking Teachers’ Week, with over 10,000 exercise books and instructional materials slated for 10 schools across Ekiti State.
The intervention, targeted at rural communities where many families struggle to provide basic school materials, took the team to Odo-Oro Community High School, Ikole-Ekiti and Babalola Brosiade High School, Usi-Ekiti, on Tuesday.
The initiative is aimed at complementing government efforts in the education sector and encouraging students to take their studies seriously.
Speaking during the exercise, the National Convener of the Network, Mr. Ojo Foluso, said the organization deliberately chose grassroots communities because its members understand the challenges parents face in providing learning materials for their children. He said the initiative was designed to give students hope and inspire them to overcome their present circumstances through education.
Patron of the Network, Engr. Michael Oluwagbemi, who is associated with the Presidential CNG Initiative, said the outreach was also part of activities marking Teachers’ Week and the 30th anniversary of the creation of Ekiti State.
Oluwagbemi commended teachers for their dedication and urged students to embrace hard work, discipline, patriotism and good values, stressing that education remains critical to their future and Nigeria’s development.
The Principal of Odo-Oro Community High School, Mr. Timothy Jedege, lauded the gesture and charged students to reciprocate the support through academic excellence. The senior prefect, Oladele Temitope, and the senior girls’ prefect, Salami Azahait, who each received N50,000, expressed appreciation for the intervention.
At Babalola Brosiade High School, the Principal, Mr. Ajayi Sunday, described the initiative as laudable, noting that many parents struggle to provide notebooks and other basic learning materials for their wards.
Oluwagbemi added that the Network would extend the exercise to Ekiti Central and Ekiti South Senatorial Districts. He noted that similar interventions have been carried out in Nasarawa, Niger, Osun and Ondo States, with the broader goal of giving hope to disadvantaged students, encouraging academic excellence, and promoting unity, responsible citizenship and love for Nigeria.
