The Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has said that the Egyptian border has just been opened for the evacuation of Nigerians after President Mohammadu Buhari’s intervention.
She said this today in a statement obtained from her verified Twitter handle, @abikedabiri adding that “the processing of evacuees by the Nigerian Embassy in Egypt will begin”.
According to her, the border was opened with strict conditions; the statement reads in full “The (Egyptian) border has just been opened, with stringent conditions after President Buhari intervened with the Egyptian President. So, the processing of evacuees by the Nigerian Embassy in Egypt will begin.”
Recall roundoffnews reported that some Nigerian students made moves to flee to Egypt from Sudan also, the Federal government recently mobilized buses that evacuate Nigerians and Nigerian students to the Egyptian border from where they are to be airlifted to Nigeria.
Nevertheless, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) reports that on getting to the Aswan border in Egypt, the borders were shot denying Nigerians entry as the Egyptian authorities were insisting on visas.
More so, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) evacuation team is already in Aswan, Egypt Airport to airlift the stranded Nigerians; they are going with dry food, water, medications, etc says NIDCOM on Twitter.
