STRIKE: FILLING STATIONS, BANKS, OTHERS TO SHUT DOWN TODAY OVER MINIMUM WAGE

By Udesinanna Stephen

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have called on the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI), and other allies to comply with its strike today after deadlock negotiations with the Federal Government.

The directives have been circulated across the 36 states of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); this comes just days after negotiations with the federal government over a new minimum wage, which ended in disagreement.

Roundoffnews recalled that the NLC warned on May 1 that they would strike if a new minimum wage was not agreed upon by the end of May. “Government refused to budge, not even a kobo was added to the N60,000 they proposed on Tuesday, which we rightly rejected.”
