Three people have died following a stampede at a convocation after-party held at Emirates Hotel late Saturday night.
Among the victims was a fresh graduate of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, who had celebrated her convocation earlier that day.
Reports of the incident surfaced Sunday morning.
Eyewitnesses said the stampede started when a large crowd tried moving between sections of the venue.
A Students’ Union executive confirmed the incident. On Sunday, the school management and Students’ Union visited the State Specialist Hospital to check on injured graduates who survived the stampede.
Authorities are expected to release an official statement after the identities of the deceased are confirmed and their families notified.
