Stakeholders in Aisegba-Ekiti promises to support Adolescents Girls Education

…as AGILE holds sensitization

Stakeholders in Aisegba-Ekiti on Wednesday promised to support adolescents girls education in Ekiti State.

The stakeholders made the pledge at a one-day Stakeholders Town Hall meeting in Aisegba-Ekiti, organised by the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE.

According to Olori Funke Omofoyinbo, the Olori Afalufin of Aisegba-Ekiti, the AGILE programme will enhance adolescents education at the grassroots level.

While calling on AGILE to extend the programme to skills acquisition for vulnerable children, she promised that the welfare of children will be prioritised by parents in the area.

Her words: “It’s very good for our schools and for the education level so that all our children will be enlightened. It’s good you bring it to all local governments so that everybody can know what is going on.

“We that are mothers should take care of our children. They can come in where Children that don’t have much money to go to the school so that they can learn other jobs that can help them.”

On her part, wife of the Chairman, Gbonyin LCDA, Mrs Ajayi Temitayo said participants at the event will encourage parents in the local area to support adolescents girls education.

She said: “We really appreciate government for this programme. The only area we want more from them is on our children, how to take care of them and how they advised us to take care of them so that they won’t go astray. If individuals get to their homes they will be able to talk to their children and encourage them.”

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Project Coordinator of AGILE, Osaleye Toyin, urged the stakeholders to sensitise members of their community on effective monitoring of the projects being executed by the group.

His words: “We are here to sensitise our people and know what is going on under AGILE project so that they can help to sensitise the community on AGILE project.

“We want them to move around the communities to sensitise our people that under the AGILE project we are having different types of renovations and projects in each of the communities so that they can help us to monitor those projects because it’s their own project.”

Highlights of the programme were sensitisation sessions by various AGILE Resource Speakers on Life Skills, Digital Skills, Gender Based Violence, Grievances Redress Mechanism among others.

The programme had in attendance, stakeholders such as students, artisans, business women and men; market women, youths, principals of secondary schools, teachers, traditional and religious leaders.
