Shoulder Responsibilities on Accurate Reportage— NUJ National Leader Tasks Journalists in Ekiti

As the 2024 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council winds down, the association explored the avenue to lecture journalist on “The Role of Media in Promoting National Peace and Security”.

Speaking at the event, the NUJ President, Chris Isiguzo disclosed that peace and security is a deliberate job for everyone and without these two factors, society cannot record progress.

Represented by the Vice President, Zone B, Comr. Ronke Samo, the President pointed out that, “In other to achieve a secured and peaceful environment, the government must be functional, there must be good relationship among the citizens, resources must be distributed clearly.”

Emphasizing the responsibilities of Journalists, Isiguzo charged Journalists to live up to their responsibilities of educating and informing the citizens as the watchdogs of the society, drawing attention of the necessary agencies to areas of major concern.

Also Speaking , HRM. Oba Adegbenro Falore called on Journalists to embrace investigative journalism and professionalism, fact-check information before disseminating.

On his part, Ekiti NUJ Chairman, Kayode Babatuyi appreciated the guests far and beyond for gracing the occasion.

He further assured that the Union will continue to put more efforts on fact-checking stories before publishing.

Dignitaries at the event included; DIG Abiodun Alabi, SA on Media to the Governor, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, Deputy Director Security Enforcement, Mr. Modestus Uwawike, other notable personalities/Journalists and the public.

Other highlight of the event was the foundation laying of the NUJ shopping Complex by DIG Alabi.
