SHERO IMPACT CHAMPIONS CAMPAIGN ON MENSTRUAL HEALTH IN EKITI

….gives out sanitary Pads to female students

…..while resource persons educate students on Gender Based Violence

A Non-Governmental Organization, SHERO IMPACT has intensified her campaigns on the need to ensure menstrual health, period safety among female students.

To this end, the organization under her initiative tagged Pad Her to Fly, visited another seven Schools in Iyin-Ekiti to educate them on how to maintain menstrual hygiene and prevent infections that could endanger their lives.

Benefiting schools include, Eyemote Comprehensive High School, Egirioke Comprehensive High School, Mirfood International School, Oasis Breed Academy, Right Foundation School, Great Achievers International High School and Tolutop Academy, Iyin-Ekiti.

During the programme free pads were distributed to the students in order to assist them pad properly during their next menstrual circle.

Speaking at the event, a Lecturer from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Dr. Omolola Dairo enlightened the students on period friendly toilet, the essence of privacy and safety during menstrual period.

She noted that SHERO Impact is focused on ensuring period friendly convenience, resources, as well as capacity building. She further urged the students to ensure proper hygiene, careful use and disposal of sanitary pads during menstruation.

Emphasizing on sexual assault and gender based violence, the Desk Officer, Gender Based Unit, Nigeria Service and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, DSC Adeyemo Dupe encouraged the students to voice out in any cases of such, adding that such report will be treatment with utmost priority by the unit.

She further urged the students to utilize the units help line (09164732914), in cases of gender based violence or cyber bullying of any kind.

On Education and Well-being, Mrs. Bimbo Oba-Rotimi noted that an investment on education and well-being is an investment in future. Hence, SHERO Impact aims to aid girls in acquiring vital education on sexuality, menstrual health and well-being.

She called for a joint effort to break barriers effecting the girl child and build a future that spurs her to greater height.

As words of encouragement, the current Miss Iyin, Bolaji Oluwagbemisola Favour, enjoined the students to prioritize their health, maintain self worth and be open to knowledge.

She urged them to commit to fueling their plight,be bold, confident, resilient and challenge themselves in things that will propel them to greatness.

Reacting, the teachers and students on their part, commended the effort of the organization in bringing their program to the school. They appreciated their stride in catering for the girl child.
