Secondary School Students Protest as Bedbugs take over hostel

Pandemonium broke out on Monday as students of Federal Science and Technical College, Usi-Ekiti staged a protest to express their grievances over the transfer of 42 teachers in the school and infested hostel.

According to an eyewitness account, students of the technical secondary college established in 2002 by the federal government have been loitering around the school premises due to the alleged unavailability of teachers.

It was gathered that the students are demanding the reinstatement of their teachers and that the authorities should come to their aid over the issue of their hostels infested with bedbugs.

A mother of one of the students, who spoke on condition of anonymity expressed displeasure on the unhealthy condition of the hostel which according to her has been infested with bedbugs.

While calling on the relevant authorities to intervene to avoid a possible disease outbreak in the school, she demanded that teachers be reposted to the school for academic activities to resume.

According to her; “The time I came to school for open day yesterday, l saw one bedbug on my son, being a new student in the hostel, he could not identify it. They were moving together joyfully. The school authority should please do something about it.”

As at the time of filing in this report, efforts to reach the school authorities has been abortive.
