SAED EXHIBITION: REMAIN STEADFAST IN ACQUIRING SKILLS, NYSC EKITI URGES CORPS MEMBERS

The Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Ekiti State, Mrs Mary Nenna Chikezie has charged
corps members to remain steadfast in skills acquisition training, making reference to post-camp SAED training programme as prerequisite to perfect any skills.

The State Coordinator, who made this statement, today, while addressing corps members during the SAED exhibition organised to showcase skills acquired during the in-camp training assures them of numerous benefits embedded in acquiring a skill.

In her words: “Nobody expects that you would perfect the learning process here in camp, it is expected that you develop interest to learn a skill and continue with it at your places of primary assignment. My dear children, a stitch in time saves nine; whether you are relocating or you are staying back in Ekiti, do not let the already burning candle of SAED go into extinction.”

According to Chikezie, the inclusion of SAED programme into the NYSC scheme was borne out of the high level of unemployment that is ravaging the world at large

Thus as a preventive measure, the management of the scheme thought it wise to introduce skills Acquisitions And Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to empower corps members with valuable skills.

The SAED programme which is part of the Orientation Course content will enable trainers to engage corps members in skills such as Tailoring, Tye and Dye, Make Up/Gele Tying, Hair making, Shoe making, Cosmetology, photography, shoe and bag making etc.

Other highlights of the event was a colourful exhibition by the various segments of the skills while the State Coordinator and other camp officials went round the various skills exhibition stand to observe what was being displayed.

Delivering the vote of thanks at the event, the Head of SAED in camp, Mr Olaoye T.J lauded all corps members for their participation and contributions in the course of the training, describing them as skillful, serious and industrious youths.

He, however, spurred them to put in effort to continue the training in their respective places of primary assignment as knowledge garnered in in-camp training is not adequate for start-up.
