On Monday, citizens of Minna, the capital of Niger State, blocked main thoroughfares in the city as a form of protest over the high cost of living there.
The demonstrators claimed that the growing cost of food and the government’s inadequate response to the crisis compelled them to block important routes in the hopes that the government would take notice of their pleas.
Speaking to the demonstrators, the Niger State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba said that the government understood the suffering and difficulties that families were going through at the moment.
According to him, the government is attempting to lower living expenses and the fallout from the elimination of gas subsidies.
