Representatives Speak on Lawmaker’s Alleged Assault on Bolt driver

As the Nigeria Police launch their investigation into an alleged assault incident involving Representative Alex Ikwechegh and Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya, the House of Representatives has expressed caution. In an effort to demonstrate its dedication to maintaining the highest ethical standards, the House urged Nigerians to permit the police to carry out a fair investigation free from outside intervention.

In a statement, House spokesperson Akin Rotimi voiced concerns about the incident, which allegedly involved Ikwechegh threatening and physically confronting the man. “Reports of an alleged incident involving Rep. Alex Ikwechegh (APGA, Abia) are being monitored by the House of Representatives,” Rotimi stated.

Making the statement, “As elected officials, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethical conduct and accountability,” he emphasized the Assembly’s dedication to accountability.

Ikwechegh allegedly used threatening language towards Abuwatseya during the alleged altercation, which has garnered a lot of media and public attention. This circumstance has prompted wider conversations about accountability in the House and prompted concerns about the behavior of public officials.

Rotimi assured the public that if the accusations are proven true, the House will take the issue seriously.The House spokesperson urged Nigerians to allow the investigation to continue unhindered in closing. Ikwechegh is being held by the police as part of their investigation, and the House promised to keep a close eye on the situation.
