On Thursday, Dare Olawin, a PUNCH Newspapers correspondent, was attacked by armed forces from the Air Force Base in Ikeja, Lagos. Around 7:40 a.m., the military personnel stormed the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company headquarters, which is located across from MITV in Ikeja, Lagos. The correspondent was in the office because they were going to an Adiyan event. Reporters were supposed to meet at the office before traveling to Adiyan, Ogun State, to witness the unveiling of a solar project.

The correspondent, a TVC cameraman, and another reporter were seen by the military men in a coaster bus. After being beaten, they were forced to sit on the ground. Threatening to shoot him if he spoke, the men took away the correspondent’s white power bank, small Itel phone, and Android phone. For more than an hour and a half, the Air Force men under the leadership of a woman took control of Ikeja Electric’s office, beating the employees and anyone else they saw.

The military men had a field day harassing people inside the office because the roads leading to it were blocked. According to information obtained, the officers were at the DisCo’s headquarters to express their anger over their military base being disconnected. Engineers and drivers who were told they would have to reconnect their barracks accompanied them out of the office.
