Procurement: Ekiti Govt Trains Staff, Appointees, Permanent Secretaries On Accountability

…as Babasola Commends Gov Oyebanji leadership style

To foster transparency and accountability in public procurement practice in Ekiti State, the state Government has trained its procurement officers and other government officials on process and procurement operandis.

In his speech during the training held in Ado Ekiti, the Special adviser and Director General to Ekiti state Bureau of Public Procurement, Pastor Babasola Folorunso noted that the extent of the training was to give dividend of Democracy to the people and ensure transparency in procurement and service delivery.

Pastor Babasola noted that the training would also equip participants and help them to understand the step-by-step Procurement cycle, procedures and the e-Procurement modules operational in the state.

According to him, it will equip participants, providing sufficient information and guidance in the area of budgeting and planning related to the procurement process at the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of Government in consonance with Procurement frameworks.

“Guide participants in the area of tax elements and deductions applicable to the state’s MDAs, in consonance with the Procurement and Financial Management Laws”

“To address general overview of the local content policy, its scope of operation, and benefits.

“It will highlight efforts made over time to include women-owned businesses in the state public procurement and the way forward”

“discuss the various types of procurement, the methods, procedures, and conditions for the desired methods”

The Ekiti state Director General of Bureau of Public procurement, said over ten years of establishing the Procurement Office in Ekiti State, the legal frame work that guides the operations of the Bureau is saddled with the responsibility of regulating, setting standards and developing the professional capacity for Public procurement in the state and other related matters.

He therefore commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji leadership style and accountability

Presenting paper at the programme, Engr. Segun Ogundare spoke on the need for proper understanding of procurement process, procedures and e-procurrment modules, saying such would give room for proper planning and monitoring of projects.

Engr. Babatunde explained that adopting procurement processing while given contracts out would prevent corruption, bribery and fraud in government.

Also, the accountant general of Ekiti State, Mrs Bolanle Oladele who spoke on types and method of procurement noted that government need money to finance expenditures such as infrastructure, and other social amenities, saying tax deductions in public procurement us crucial not only for government but also for vendors and other businesses persons.

The training was attended by government officials and political appointees including Secretary to the state government, Dr Habibat Adubiaro, Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi
