PRIVATE SCHOOL PROPRIETORS LAUNCH NEW ASSOCIATION IN EKITI

…as former first lady seeks review of nation’s education system

 
As part of measures to improve access to qualitative education in the country,  proprietors of private schools have launched a body in Ekiti State known as
Association for Formidable Educational Development, AFED.

The association is designed to promote unity and creativity among member schools, solicit for fund and educational aid for schools and facilitate other necessary assistance that can enhance teaching and learning.

During the launch, a newly elected executive committee members of the group were officially inaugurated by the national body.

Speaking at the event, an educator and wife of the former Governor of Oyo State,  Her Excellency, Bukola Ladoja advocated for an improved reading culture amongst students in all levels of education.

Mrs Ladoja, who spoke at the inauguration ceremony of Ekiti State chapter of Association for Formidable Educational Development, AFED, regretted that there is a gap between the international students and those at the lower level.

She strongly recommend a remodeled curriculum to meet the needs of the present day school system in order for students compete favourably with their counterparts globally.

Her words: “I am one of those that have hope this nation will be great. We want to close the gap between international students and lower students. We want to have a new Nigeria based on knowledge.

“Reading will make you to be confident, remodel your mind and make you travel far. If you do not give poor children the opportunity, Nigeria will continue to sink. We must take a step to help these children and not create a gap.”

In the same vein, CEO of WhyBlueSky and Polish citizen, Mrs Agatha William said teachers must take the profession as an obligation to develop the next generation of leaders.

In his remarks, AFED National President, Hon. Orji Emmanuel, appealed to the Ekiti State Government to partner with the organisation noting that AFED are committed to the growth of education in the state.

He said: “AFED will do what it can to beam our searchlight towards Ekiti to ensure the gap in education is covered. I want to crave the indulgence of those in government that the value AFED is creating is accepted here.”

Also, the  Controller of AFED in Ekiti State, Pastor Samson Ibitoye said AFED will collaborate with relevant bodies in the state towards achieving quality and affordable education.

The event which was witnessed by students and pupils from different schools in the state had also the inauguration of the Ekiti State chapter of AFED.
