Princess Fadekemi Mbah Appointed Regent of Ilawe-Ekiti

The Ilawe Ekiti community has announced the appointment of Princess Fadekemi Folasade Alabi Mbah as Regent of the town following the passing of the monarch, the late Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, Afuntade I.

The appointment was made public today, Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Community leaders said the decision was taken in accordance with the tradition and custom of the ancient town.

Princess Fadekemi is the first daughter of the late Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti.

Her emergence as Regent positions her to oversee the affairs of the town pending the selection and installation of a new monarch.

Traditional rites and consultations preceded the announcement, in line with the customs governing succession in Ilawe Ekiti.

The process is expected to maintain stability and continuity in the community during the interregnum.

Princess Fadekemi will be responsible for coordinating traditional activities and ensuring peace within the town.

Community leaders urged residents to support the Regent as she carries out her duties. They also called for unity and calm as preparations for the eventual choice of a new Alawe begin.
