The Shell Petroleum Development Company-operated Trans-Niger Delta Pipeline fire has been confirmed by the Rivers State Police Command. Residents were reassured by the command, however, that everything was under control. Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday.
During a security patrol on Monday night, Iringe-Koko said, officers discovered the fire. They notified SPDC, which promptly closed the impacted pipeline and initiated safety precautions. She did not clarify if the fire was brought on by a spill, an explosion, or militant activity.
However, she disclosed that as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident’s cause, two people have been taken into custody for interrogation. “A comprehensive investigation has been launched by the Rivers State Police Command to ascertain the origin of the fire. Two people have been detained for interrogation in relation to this in an attempt to find any possible acts of sabotage,” she stated. The Rivers State Police Command has begun a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
