POLICE ARRAIGNS MAN FOR ALLEGEDLY THREATENING LIFE OF EKITI CATHOLIC BISHOP

Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned a middle age man, Victor Akande in a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti for allegedly threatening the life of Bishop of Ekiti Catholic Diocese, Felix Ajakaye.

The defendant according to the charge, committed the offence on 15th January, 2025 at the Bishop’s house around 8:30p.m.

The charge reads, that you Akande Victor on 15/1/25 at 8:30 p.m., at the Bishop’s house did threaten the life of Ekiti Catholic Bishop, Most Revd. Felix Femi Ajakaye, also same day, time and aforementioned place did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.

The offences are contrary to and punishable under section 46 and 181(1) (d), Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
The charge was read to the defendant, he claimed to understand it but pleaded not guilty.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Bamikole Olasunkanmi informed the court of his intention to call three witnesses to prosecute the case, he asked for a date to arrange his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Opeyemi Esan, told the court that information at his disposal from the Bishop, who was represented by a priest, indicated that the Bishop has pardoned the defendant but however, recommended him to undergo rehabilitation processes.

In the interim he urged the court to admit him to bail in a liberal term.

In his ruling Magistrate Adefunke Anoma said, there is nothing before the court to support the defendant counsel’s claim that could warrant the charge to be struck out.

He admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of #10,000 and one surety in like sum, surety must swear to affidavit of means and must be resident within the jurisdiction of this court.

The case has been adjourned till 28/1/25 for report of settlement or hearing.
