The Ekiti State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has relocated to its permanent secretariat in Ajilosun area of Ekiti State, with party leaders declaring readiness to oust the All Progressive Congress (APC) from power come June 20 governorship poll.
Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the State chairman of the party, Tunji Odeyemi, said the party had long owned the facility but continued operating from a rented space until recent developments prompted a shift.
Odeyemi alleged that the party was improperly evicted from the rented premises, claiming the landlord, whom he said had declared support for APC locked the office without a court order while party property remained inside.
The PDP chairman also used the occasion to assure residents that the party had the capacity to govern Ekiti again, expressing confidence that it would win the forthcoming election once its candidate, Dr Wole Oluyede emerges.
His words, “For long, this place has belonged to the PDP. The structure was put up through contributions from party faithful across Nigeria, but we had been occupying a rented office. We realised there was no reason to keep paying rent when we already have our own building.
“We have done it before and we can do it again. We have the personnel and the structure. Within the next one or two weeks, our candidate will emerge and we will begin work in earnest,”
Also speaking, the Director-General of Oluyede Campaign Team, Ogundipe Komolafe, described the occupation of the secretariat as a historic day for the party, alleging attempts by the current administration to limit opposition activities in the state.
Komolafe said the facility would serve as a rallying point for members across the 16 local government areas, adding that mobilisation had begun in earnest.
He expressed optimism that Oluwede would emerge victorious, maintaining that the PDP remained a dominant political force in Ekiti, urging members to ignore rumours and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the poll.
“This building belongs to us and we have taken possession of it. No other party has a permanent head office like this in the state”. He added
