PAN-AFRICAN FRATERNITY NBM EKITI ZONE CELEBRATES 2ND ANNIVERSARY WITH GLITZ

……Cautions Youths Against Drug Abuse

It was merriment and celebration galore in Ado, the Ekiti State capital, as members of the Pan-African fraternity, the Neo-Black Movement of Africa (NBM), marked its second anniversary.

However, the ceremony did not go without a note of caution to youths, especially members of the fraternity, to desist from drug abuse due to its dangerous consequences on their lives.

The guest lecturers, including the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Ekiti State Governor on Investment Promotion, Dr. Akeem Abidemi Alaketu, and a renowned broadcaster and Chairperson, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Progress FM Chapel, Mrs. Adefunke Adeigba, attributed drug abuse to a major factor responsible for crimes and early death.

They both called on the government to support the movement in its campaign against drug and other social vices so as to have a peaceful society where development is guaranteed.

Earlier, the President of the Neo-Black Movement of Africa (NBM), Ekiti Zone, Hon. Ademola Babatunde, said the ceremony was to further strengthen the relationship of members and to educate them on how to be more successful, being the dream of the founding fathers.

He added that the programme was also a moment of reflection and gratitude for the unity and progress of the movement despite the various challenges faced.

Similarly, a senior member of the group, who is also the Senior Special Assistant to Ekiti State Governor on Local Intelligence, Folorunso Ajayi, said the theme of the lecture was “Understanding the Public Health Crisis of Drug Abuse and Policy Approaches.”

Other dignitaries who spoke clarified that the movement was mainly for the empowerment of Africans and should not be linked to any illegality.

Some members of the group who spoke commended the leadership for coming up with such a beautiful event which has opened their eyes to a lot of things about public health.

The highlight of the event was the endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term in office based on his inclusive style of leadership, which they confirmed gave them a sense of belonging.
