Over 200 Ekiti Secondary Schools Benefited from AGILE Project, Says Adesua

…holds interactive session with head of MDAs, parastatals

No fewer than two hundred Public Secondary Schools in Ekiti State have benefited from the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment Programme, AGILE, project.

AGILE Coordinator in Ekiti State, Mrs Yewande Adesua stated this in Ado-Ekiti during an engagement with Heads of Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Parastatals.

She said that secondary schools in the state benefited in the area of provision of learning equipment, construction of toilets, classrooms, provision of instructional materials, training among others.

Mrs Adesua explained that to prevent the right of girl child, boys were also taken into consideration in AGILE programmes to make the programme achieve its required aims as well as training of over two hundred teachers.

She noted that under the AGILE Gender Based Violence, sanitary pads have been distributed to girl-child while community Stakeholders have been trained on the danger and implications of violence against girl child.

According to her, AGILE provided accessible, inclusive and conducive environment for teaching and learning in secondary schools which is the major objective of the project in Ekiti State.

Mrs Adesua noted that Twenty five million dollars was released to Ekiti State by world Bank to execute AGILE projects in the state.

In his remark, Permanent Secretary, Mr Olusesan Ajayi explained that under the Ek-care which was put in place to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on residents, many business owners and communities have benefited.

He called on government agencies to collaborate with AGILE on its move to promote girls education in Ekiti State.

Also, the permanent secretary, Ministry of women Affairs, Mrs Sola Adeluyi promised the readiness of the ministry to work with AGILE to prevent Gender Based Violence in secondary schools, saying the projects executed by AGILE in schools would go along way to promote girl child education in the State.

Others heads of ministries who spoke at the interactive programme promised to work with AGILE to check duplication of projects in schools, saying this would give room for more schools to benefit from the world Bank project.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi explained that the extent of the interactive programme was to create symbiotic with MDAs and parastatals on how to improve on execution of AGILE programmes in Ekiti State

Commenting, the State Head of service, Mr Bamidele Agbede noted that the interactive programme was a welcome, saying it would arouse the consciousness of head of government agencies, ministries, Departments and parastatals that AGILE projects to promote girls education and prevent Gender Based Violence is ongoing.
