The Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, LGSC, in Ekiti State, Chief Samuel Alaba Abejide has said that the monthly prayers tour across local governments in the State is yielding positive results.
He stated this on Friday when the Commission embarked on the July edition of the prayers tour to Moba and Ilejemeje local governments of Ekiti State.
At Otun-Ekiti, headquarters of Moba local government the Chairman who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mrs Titilayo Toba-Ojo was welcomed by dance troupes and excited staff of the LGA in a glamorous and befitting reception.
The Chairman thanked God for prayers answered since the idea of the monthly local government tour was conceived by the Commission.
The Permanent Secretary extolled Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for the developmental strides in the state and particularly according staff welfare a topmost priority while calling on the staff to reciprocate the gesture.
Her words: “I thank God because our prayers are being answered. The last time we were at Irepodun/Ifelodun and Ekiti South West LGAs, before the prayers were wrapped up, the governor had announced the appointment of two more permanent secretaries for the Local Government Service and they’re from these LGAs.
“I know God is answering our prayers. So many breakthroughs are taking place at the Commission for the advancement of the local government service. I believe they are possible as a result of the prayers. I believe by the time we tour other local governments, more divine interventions will come.
“We’ve never had it so good like this before. In the past, only one Permanent Secretary used to be at the Commission, it may not be of the local government extraction, but this time around, the governor gave us three. We are indeed deeply appreciative of the benevolence.
“BAO has given to us so much. We must make sure that we reciprocate the gesture of the governor.”
On their parts, the Chairmen of Moba and Ilejemeje local governments, Hon. Julius Fadugba and Hon. Pius Dada respectively commended the Commission for organizing the prayers across the local governments.
Fadugba, who welcomed the Supreme Court judgement on the local government autonomy said that the local government system has enjoyed autonomy under Governor Oyebanji.
He said that the people of the State are clamouring for his return for second term in office to continue the good works in the State.
According to Fadugba, “Everything you are doing needs prayers. It is very important and fantastic. I pray that all our prayers are answered.
“We have been operating local government autonomy in Ekiti State. For the Supreme Court to grant the autonomy to local government is not news to us because in Ekiti State we have been operating the autonomy system.
“It is a welcome development and we appreciate our governor for accommodating and prioritising the welfare of Ekiti people. We pray that Almighty God grants him a second term because Ekiti people are clamouring that the governor contests for a second term to continue his good works in the State.”
The Ilejemeje council boss said: “this is the first time I will experience a prayer session like this in the local government. I really appreciate those who initiated the prayers. God will answer our prayers. I pray God will put an end to all the untimely deaths among local government workers and retirees.”
Earlier in his sermon in Otun-Ekiti, Pastor Isaac Idowu, who spoke on “By Strength Shall No Man Prevail” took his text from 1 Samuel 2:9 and Psalms 33:16.
According to him, “this is a signal for us to rise and call upon God. Man’s strength can no longer save the nation. What we need is to call upon God to be our help so that He can deliver us. Let us come together and call upon the Lord to save us in this country.”
The prayers held at Otun-Ekiti for staff of Moba local government and Ero LCDA and Eda-Oniyo for staff of Ilejemeje local government featured prayers for the country, state and local governments.
