Matriculates About 300 Students
About three hundred newly admitted students of the Ajayi Polytechnic, Ikere Ekiti have taken oath of matriculation.
It was a moment of joy as the oath was administered on the student by the registrar of the Institution, Ayodeji Ogunjobi at the school premises.
Addressing the gathering, founder of Ajayi Polytechnic Ikere Ekiti, Dr Busayo Ajayi said the institution would continue to uphold discipline, diligence, moral and academic excellence.
He urged the students not to engage in any activity that could affect their academic career adding that every culprit of anti social vices would be sanctioned.
Dr. Ajayi explained that the school had everything such as qualified lecturers, conducive environment and technological apparatus to train and build students that would compete with their counterparts globally.
The founder lamented a situation where graduates end up becoming liability to their parents due to inability to get sustainable jobs.
According to him, Statistics shows that more than 21 million Nigerians are presently unemployed, a number he said was increasing every day.
” Our effort as education provider will be a failure, if our graduates end up increasing the number of unemployed youths.
“Our intervention in providing education is to reduce the number of unemployed by equipping our gratustes with the required skills that will put them in positions to create jobs.
The founder noted that the goal of Ajayi polytechnic is to ensure that all students of the institution acquire at least one skill that can put them in the position to set up sustainable business after their education.
He said that the polytechnic would produce solution providers, not people that will add to the problem of the nation.
He said the only option available to parents now is to enroll their students in Private Institutions due to incessant ASUU strike, saying the students matriculating today will finish their National Diploma and HND by May next year.
On entrepreneurship programme, the founder said that any student that comes up with second and third position will be given N250,000 to sponsor their innovative idea and third position will be given N100,000 to set up new business.
Also, a former commissioner of work in Ekiti State, Mrs Funmilayo Ogun promised to be giving best female graduating student of the school one hundred thousand naira.
The event feature unveiling of hall in memory of the father of the founder of the Polytechnic, late Micheal Akinola Ajayi.
