ONE DIES AS ARMED MEN INVADE EKITI COMMUNITY

The crisis between Eda-Oniyo Ekiti in Ilejemeje Local Government and a community in Kwara State, Obbo Aiyegunle has claimed one life as Armed men from the town invaded Eda Oniyo.

During the invasion a building belonging to a prominent son of the town was vandalized while many were injured.

Sometime this month, the local Government secretariat in Eda Oniyo Ekiti was attacked by some residents of Obbo Aiyekunle while many people were also injured.

Reacting to the rescent attack, Ekiti State Commissioner of Information, Chief Taiwo Olatubosun appealed to residents of Eda Oniyo in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of the State to remain calm over the attack on the community.

Chief Olatunbosun who noted that one person from the community was reportedly killed in the fracas, stressed that soldiers, police and members of the Amotekun Corps had moved to the scene immediately to curtail the crisis.

He explained that available information indicated that the boundary dispute between Eda Oniyo Ekiti and Obo Ayegunle in Kwara State escalated when armed men from Obo Ayegunle attacked Eda Oniyo on Saturday.

The Commissioner however assured that additional troops had already moved to the area to protect the community while the Army formation in Kwara State has been contacted to deploy troops along Kwara side of the border in order to curtail further attack from both sides.

Reiterating the commitment of the Ekiti State Government to fostering peace and security across the State, Olatunbosun stressed the need for calm while the security agencies take charge of the situation, assuring that the perpetrators and their accomplices would be fished out and brought to justice.

He expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the quick recovery of those affected by the incident.
