The Ekiti State Okada Riders Association on Monday swore in chairmen for its branches and local governments areas of the state, following the appointment of a 10-man caretaker committee by the state government to oversee the affairs of the association.
The caretaker committee, headed by Comrade Kunle Asaolu, was mandated to reorganise the association and establish functional leadership across its branches and local governments with the appointment of the branch and local governments chairmen forming part of its responsibilities.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the association’s state headquarters in Ado-Ekiti on Monday.
Speaking at the event, Asaolu commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his commitment to the development of the state, particularly in the area of road infrastructure.
He said Okada riders must also contribute to the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state, noting that such contributions would enable them to play their part in the development of Ekiti.
He added that the leadership would work to improve the association’s contribution to the state’s IGR, stressing that commercial motorcycle operators in some neighbouring states contribute significantly to government revenue.
Asaolu charged the newly sworn-in chairmen to see their positions as an opportunity to serve members and promote unity, rather than as a means of exercising authority over them.
The caretaker chairman expressed confidence in the new chairmen, saying they had demonstrated commitment to the association and would work for its progress and the development of the state.
He recalled the support of members of the association during the 2026 governorship election, saying they worked tirelessly for the return of Governor Oyebanji.
He added that a campaign-era request was made to Governor Oyebanji for support, including motorcycles for members and a vehicle for the association.
According to him, the governor had promised to support the association when the time was right, expressing confidence that he would fulfil the commitment.
The newly sworn-in chairmen appreciated Governor Oyebanji and the caretaker committee for their appointments.
They also called on members of the association to remain peaceful, work together and support efforts to maintain peace and contribute to the development of Ekiti State.
