NYSC Mandates Prospective Corps Members to register with NIN

By Omachoko Grace

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has implemented a new policy requiring all qualified Prospective Corps Members to register with their National Identification Numbers (NIN).

This came following an undercover report by @Theumar_audu, a Nigerian Journalist who revealed multiple flaws in the mobilization process of the Scheme.

The NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa issued a statement on Wednesday, highlighting that this new policy emerged as part of the resolutions from a meeting between the NYSC management, led by Director-General, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, and the Management of the National Identification Management Commission (NIMC), led by its Director General Abisoye Coker-Odusote in Abuja.

Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed emphasized that the collaboration with NIMC on corps mobilization would enhance and strengthen the online registration process for the NYSC scheme, saying that the integration of National Identification Numbers is expected to streamline and authenticate the identification process for Prospective Corps Members, ensuring accuracy and reliability, and the collaboration between NYSC and NIMC signifies a commitment to improving the overall efficiency of the Corps mobilization system.

According to him, Prospective Corps Members are now required to ensure that their NIN is part of the registration process, aligning with the government’s push for a unified identification system across various sectors. The new move to enhance the security and accuracy of data associated with corps members, fostering a more robust and transparent mobilization process.
