Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has debunked the rumour making the rounds on some social media platforms that students allegedly died during the on going second semester examination.
A press statement made available to newsmen on Sunday by Wole Balogun, the Special Adviser on media matters to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof . Abayomi Sunday Fasina, disclosed that all the students sitting for exams are in sound condition of health and doing well.
Balogun’s statement reads in part: ” We hereby debunk the fake news making the rounds on some social media platforms that students of FUOYE died during their on going exams. This is a clear fabrication of falsehood by those who only delight in peddling lies on the social media so as to get undeserved attention of unsuspecting members of the public.
“There were some issues that are usually associated with students getting into exam halls but these have been adequately taken care of.
“There was never any case of death or casualty and so the Management wishes to urge members of the public and particularly our parents and guardians, to remain calm and not be disturbed by such fake news about the institution.
“As a proactive institution, the University took proactive measures, knowing fully well that when you have large numbers of students queuing up for examination, certain things are inevitable. So our medical team and resources were fully deployed on the ground in the event of any incidents. Nothing happened beyond what the team could effectively handled and resolved with dispatch.”
“We assure our dear parents and guardians that their children and wards are in safe hands in FUOYE and they need not be agitated about their well-being and security among others, as these are part and parcel of the top priorities of the University management o which they will never compromise.
“The management equally urges the public to dismiss as unfounded and untrue the rumour of students passing out, let alone dying in the process. Nothing could be further from the truth.”
If such a thing had happened, the University community would have been on fire by now. The students would have taken to the street to protest such a development with bonfires. Above all else, all examinations continue as scheduled without any disruption. No one dares such a thing if just one student died in the course of the examination as the fifth columnists are trying hard but unsuccessfully to drag the name of the University in the mud.”
