No plan to ‘turban’ Fulani man in Ado-Ekiti – Ewi

By Roundoffnews

The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe has declared as untrue and baseless the reports of alleged planned ‘turbanisation’ of one Abdul Yusuf as Seriki Hausawa in the community.

The first class traditional ruler who spoke through the seven-man committee of the Ewi-in-Council while addressing newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital noted that the reports flying around on the purported installation should be disregarded saying, ” it is against our tradition in Ado-Ekiti kingdom.”

The chairman of the committee and Odole of Ado-Ekiti, Chief Bayo Ogunmodimu explained that for cordial and workable relationship with the ethnic groups in the community, the traditional ruler who is a nationalist only confirm the leadership of these groups as presented to him which is called ‘Asiwaju’ in the palace.

He added that the invitation cards in circulation in the social media as regards the leadership of the Hausa community was not done in consultation with the palace and that the earlier event scheduled for June 4 had been postponed.

He described people peddling the reports of the Ewi planning to install Fulani man in the community as detractors and enemies of progress, saying the said Yusuf is an Hausa man who has lived his life in the community including all his educational qualifications, revealing, “he is not in any way a Fulani descendant as being propagated by detractors.”

According to him, ” It is clear to all reasonable thinking and proper Yoruba person, especially an Ekiti man that the Kabiyesi only installs a worthy recognized iconic man or woman in the community as a Chief in the Palace and will not entertain ‘Turbanlization’ activities in the Palace as it is against our tradition in Ado-Ekiti kingdom.

” In his magnanimity, the Monarch chose leaders for the various ethnic groups in the metropolis of Ado in order to foster cordial relationship between these ethnic groups and the host community. The issue of Yusuf is not an exception in choosing him as the Asiwaju of the Hausa in Ado community.

” Let me make it clear that we don’t Turban in Ado Ekiti but just blessings and we want to say that Ewi never intended what is put in the circulated invitation cards. It is pure blackmail because Ewi never intended to install any Fulani man in Ekiti.

” The issue of the cards in circulation was not to the knowledge of His Royal Majesty. If this is known to the Palace necessary corrections of the wrongs therein would have been effected. This error of the intended celebrant had caused for attention in the Palace calling for the cancellation of the Invitation cards and postponement of his installation as the Asiwaju of the Hausas in Ado-Ekiti.”

Ogunmodimu noted that it was unfair and unfortunate to link the situation to the alleged hostile reception accorded to the Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho by the Palace during his visit to the state last year, adding that he was not around at the palace after several hours of waiting by the traditional ruler and the chiefs.

” Acting on the information reaching us in the palace, the innocent Monarch and the Ewi-in-Council had prepared a venue for his reception waiting to welcome him but to our dismay, he never showed up.

” The leaders of the organising committee of Igboho’s movement came to the Palace by 3:45pm to tender their unreserved regret and apology for not seeing the long awaited Sunday Igboho since 10am the palace have been expecting.

” Our painstakingly and articulate statements of fact in this regard is to disabuse the minds of the public over the copious undeniable errors of Ad-ignorancium being committed by the perpetrator of the malicious social media news presently in circulation,” he said.
