No Nurse was convicted in Ekiti, NANNM Chairman Adegbuyi Clarifies False Publications

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Ekiti State Council has clarified that the young man convicted for impersonating a doctor and conducting botched cesarean section on June 24, 2019, in Erinmope Ekiti was not a nurse as publicised in some media organisations.

In a statement in Ado Ekiti, Chairman of the association, Mr. Samuel Adegbuyi confirmed that the convict was a “nursing apprentice” and not a registered nurse as painted, hence he urged members of the public to disregard the fake news.

According to the chairman, nurses are registered health professionals well trained and operate under guiding principles and ethics, hence a nurse will not engage in such unlawful practice.

He explained that the publication was carried out by overzealous and unprofessional media outfits who prioritise sensationalism over professionalism.

Meanwhile the association has officially communicated some of the media organisations that misrepresented the facts about the matter with demands

The letter reads:” the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Ekiti State Council, vehemently protest and demand the immediate full retraction of your March 10, 2026, article that falsely indicts registered nurses by labeling Olatide Temitope Emmanuel—a fake doctor and former Nursing apprentice—as a “nurse” responsible for the death of Falade Bosede during a botched cesarean section on June 24, 2019, in Erinmope Ekiti .

“This report is not only factually inaccurate but also highly defamatory, casting an unwarranted indictment on the entire Nursing profession in Nigeria. This sensationalized misrepresentation is a grave journalistic malpractice that smears the image of every qualified Nurse in Nigeria.

“Court records clearly establish that Emmanuel, who admitted to lacking medical qualifications and only having informal Nursing apprenticeship training in Lagos before opening an unlicensed clinic, was convicted of murder and impersonation—not as a licensed Nurse but as a quack impersonating a Doctor .

“Your publication ignores these facts, fueling public outrage against innocent Nurses, eroding trust in our profession, and exposing us to harassment, stigma, and unwarranted professional misconduct claims amid Nigeria’s fight against medical quackery.

We hereby, demand:Immediate deletion or full retraction of the article with a bold homepage notice. A prominent correction/apology clarifying Emmanuel as a fake doctor (not a registered Nurse.
