…as Atiku wife seeks improved participation of women in politics
A political scientist with the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Professor Femi Omotosho has said that Nigeria has not properly harnessed the potential of its women folk.
According to Professor Omotosho, women are well blessed and endowed with talents and leadership skill which could be utilized to tackle the socio- economic challenges facing the country.
The university lecturer spoke while delivering a public lecture at a summit organized by the women leader of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Ekiti State, Chief Sade Akinrinmola.
With the theme of the summit, “Women As Agents of Positive Change” Professor Omotosho affirmed that in most positions either economy or politics, women often performed better than thier male counterparts, hence the need to give them more recognition.
He tasked the women to embark on aggressive campaign for their preferred candidates so as to get the right persons at the helms of affairs.
In a remark, wife of a former vice president of Nigeria, Alhaja Titi Atiku called on women who are members of PDP in Ekiti State to continue engaging in grassroots mobilisation for PDP presidential candidate and other candidates of the party ahead of next year’s election.
Alhaja Titi Atiku who was represented by a leader of PDP in Ondo state, Mrs Bosede Adaramola explained that their mobilisation at the grassroot would go along way to determine the success of the party during the poll and lamented over the poor condition of roads that link Ekiti State with others.
Also, the Director General of Atikunation ICG across the thirty six states, Mrs Fatimah Ogunkola expressed disatisfaction over the way women in politics were treated by their male counterparts and called for change, saying the programme would be replicated across the states of the federation.
In her speech, the lawmaker representing Ekiti South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Biodun Olujimi who was represented by a former member of House of representatives, Mrs Titilayo Akindahunsi and former Chairman of Ado Ekiti local government, Mr Deji Ogunsakin urged women to be united so as to become relevant in the scheme of things in Nigeria.
In her address of welcome, the PDP women leader in Ekiti State, Chief Sade Akinrinmola who is also the convener of the programme said it was to enlighten women to know their importannce and make use of it to develop the country urging them to vote wisely during the coming poll.
Chief Akinrinmola who is a former council boss of Gbonyin local government therefore appealed to the participants to use their vote to liberate the country during the 2023 elections.
The women’s summit was well attended by PDP women across the sixteen Local Governments of Ekiti State.
