By Bayo Famoroti

Mrs. Abimbola Bolarinwa Ajayi, wife of the Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Andrew Olusola Ajayi, has called on the Nigerian government to address the country’s pressing issues.

Speaking at the 2025 Mother’s Union conference hosted by Ado Archdeaconry and Federal Housing Archdeaconry, Mrs Ajayi lamented the state of the nation, citing widespread corruption, poor economic conditions, and inadequate access to education and healthcare .

She noted that students are more focused on cheating and bribery than academic excellence, with bribery being a determining factor in achieving success.

She highlighted the struggles of the poor, noting that the minimum wage is insufficient to purchase basic necessities like a bag of rice, while politicians collect wardrobe allowances and seek medical treatment abroad.

Mrs. Ajayi expressed concern about graduates resorting to commercial motorcycle riding (Okada) due to lack of job opportunities and the deplorable state of roads, which often result in fatal accidents.

She criticized the disparity in healthcare access, where the poor cannot afford medical bills, while politicians receive treatment in foreign countries.

She urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intensify efforts to address these challenges, emphasizing the need for improved security, education, economy, and job opportunities for youths.

She prayed for Nigeria’s prosperity and progress, calling on politicians to serve the people who elected them .
