… calls for review of salaries, wages of workers

The Nigeria Civil Service Union said it has observed with utmost dismay the high cost of governance calling for diversification of the economy.

The union made this known in a 8-point communique issued and signed by both the Chairman, Comrade Adoga Aruwa and Secretary, Comrade Dan Otakpo, at the end of the 12th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of Federal Council of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, held on Wednesday 28th September 2022, in Abuja.

While calling on the FG to resolve the ASUU strike, they advised them to step up more efforts to recover stolen funds and channel it to employment generating ventures.

The communique read in part: “The conference further consider as most insensitive the emoluments payable to political office holders in a situation where they enjoy continual and unified salaries and allowances while salaries of Civil Servants remain stagnated and distorted, this is unfair

“On the cost of Administration, the conference in session advocated for the reduction in the cost of governance due to dwindling in resource of the country “the Union observed with dismay the hundreds of billions of naira allotted and filter away in the guise of security votes; Federal Government should be more prudent in the resource allocation.

“The conference in session therefore called on the federal government to bring into bear the spirit of fairness, justice and equity in the salary of workers in the three tiers of government and called for the review of salaries and wages of workers in the country.”

At the end of the conference, officers emerged to run Federal Council of the Nigeria Civil Service Union for the next four years.
