… promises to obey tradition, custom of Ado Ekiti
Chief Femi Awe has been installed as the new Elegemo of Ado Ekiti to serve as chief priest to Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe.
The new Elegemo was installed overnight in line with the tradition of Ado Ekiti.
During the installation in Ado Ekiti, Chief Awe promised to operate inline with the custom and tradition of Ado as well pledged to obey instructions of Ewi of Ado Ekiti.
While praying for the long reign of His Imperial Majesty, Dr. Rufus Adejugbe, he said the monarch will live not to know another Elegemo of Ado-Ekiti other than himself. He appreciated the Eyesorun, all Chiefs and Youths of Ado-Ekiti for their support and cooperation which according to him made his installation a rancor-free.
His wife, Mrs. Julius Progress who couldn’t hide her joy as her husband was installed as new Elegemo of Igemo- Quarters of Ado-Ekiti, said by virtue of her husband’s position as Elegemo, the Chief Priest to Ewi, he and Ewi of Ado-Ekiti can no longer come in contact with each other for the rest of their lives.
“My husband cannot visit the palace and the monarch cannot visit us too”.
While substantiating the earlier claim of Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, that regent cannot be installed in place Elegemo being a priest, the Asamo of Ado-Ekiti, High Chief Emmanuel Abiodun Akinyede, said Elegemo is just a priest to the monarch whose installation was usually carried out overnight. He therefore called on the new Elegemo, Chief Julius Awe to cooperate with the paramount ruler, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti.
Also, the Elemo of Ado-Ekiti, High Chief Atoba Ope Peter, explained that Elemo remains the first first son of Elegemo according to the tradition, and that everything that has to be done with the Elegemo title has to be done within the Ilegemo and Elemo Quarters.
In his word, “we thank God today. We are very glad and rejoicing that we are installing an authentic Elegemo with the permission and support of our royal father, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti.”.
High Chief Elemo, urged the new Elegemo to use his good position to unite the family saying that the duty of a good leader is to ensure that the family comes together.
In a similar vein, the Alawe of Ilegemo Quarters of Ado-Ekiti, Chief Adelusi Patrick Abiodun, admonished Chief Awe to always yield to elders’ advice and respect the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, as well as the Chiefs of Odo-Ado, Ado-Ekiti.
The Alawe of Igemo-Quarters is an intermediary between the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti and Elegemo of Igemo since both of them could be likened to parallel lines that can never meet.
It would be recalled as reported in various media recently that, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti admonished the Ilegemo people and, the Odo-Ado Chiefs on the rumour going round about abominable intention of the family of the immediate past Elegemo, Chief Femi John Ojo to install a Regent contrary to Ado tradition and the status of the Elegemo as a priest saying the act would not only against the tradition of the land but also a taboo.
With the installation of the new Elegemo of Odo-Ado, Ado-Ekiti, the issue of appointing a regent to replace the late Elegemo, which was unheard of in the history of the town, and a complete traditional aberration has been laid to rest as
any further contemplation in that regard would amount to a complete abomination and unpardonable transgression against the inviolable history of Ado-Ekiti Kingdom.
