NDIC to Maintain Sound Banking Environment For Economic Development

Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has reaffirmed its commitment to checking financial malpractices and maintaining a safe and sound banking environment necessary for economic development

NDIC Managing Director/Chief Executive, Bello Hassan, represented by Director Communications & Public Affairs Department NDIC, Nuhu Bashir, reiterated this commitment at the 2024 Capacity Building Workshop organised for Law Enforcement Agencies in Lagos on Thursday.

He stated, “The NDIC, as a key participant in the financial safety net, has taken the fight against insider abuses and financial malpractices in banks very seriously.

“A safe and sound banking environment is essential for financial system stability, which is the bedrock of economic development.

The workshop aims to enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies in investigating and prosecuting financial crimes and fostering greater collaboration with NDIC.

Hassan commended the collaborative efforts between NDIC and law enforcement agencies in the country and encouraged them to remain vigilant in detecting and prosecuting financial crimes.

“Through our collaborative efforts, I am aware that fourteen prosecution cases are ongoing at various courts, eighteen investigations are ongoing with the Financial Monitoring Intelligence Unit (FMIU), eight with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and nine concluded investigations are with the Federal Ministry of Justice for advice and prosecution,” he remarked.
