…urge family to take solace in God
The National Executive Council of Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has expressed intense grief over the death of its Vice President, Comrade Elijah Elijah who died of traffic accident.
The NCS Deputy National Treasurer, Dr. Omonisi Abidemi expressed this while delivering the Condolence Message on behalf of the NCS President,Dr. Adamu Umar at the Service of Songs for late Comrade Elijah in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Dr Adamu described Comrade Elijah who also doubles as the Coordinator of Civil Society for Cancer Eradication in Nigeria, CISCANEN as a true Cancer Advocate who served the society and country in different capacities and contributed immensely to the ongoing positive transformation of Nigerian Cancer Society.
Comrade Elijah died in a road traffic accident along Igede-Ekiti to Ilawe-Ekiti and died at the spot.
He commended efforts of the Cancer Advocate who has committed his time, energy and resources to the development of NCS for the past six years.
He said he was courageous, hardworking personality during his life time, urging his wife and children to take solace in the fact that he has chosen to serve humanity.
He prayed God to bestow on the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
According to him we received the very sad and shocking news of the sudden death of Comrade Elijah
Elijah on Monday, 7th November, 2022 with great grief.
“The entire cancer advocacy space in Nigeria is still in a state of shock and found it very hard to believe
that our very good friend, Comrade Elijah Elijah is no more.
We were together at the recently
concluded 2022 International Cancer Week and the Annual General Meeting of Nigerian Cancer
Society (NCS) last week in Abuja.
“He was full of life and activity all through the conference and was
part of the special reception organized last Friday’s night on the 4th November, 2022 in Abuja, to
celebrate our re-election as national officers of the NCS for 2022- 2024 Executive Year. I never knew
that event will be my last physical interaction with him.
“The death of Comrade Elijah was unexpected
and indeed is a very sad moment for us and I share in this grief with his wife, children, members of his
family and associates.
“Comrade Elijah H.O. Elijah was our very reliable friend, a tireless cancer advocate who in the last 6
years had committed his time, energy and resources to the development of Nigerian Cancer Society.
“Comrade Elijah epitomized the finest of character with his amiable disposition to issues. He was a very
bold , courage and hardworking personality.
“I urge the wife and children to take solace in the fact that
their father chose to serve humanity and had successfully etched his name in gold.
“I pray Almighty God bestow on the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, and May the good
Lord grant the late Comrade Elijah Elijah an eternal rest.”
Other members of NCS in attendance were Prof. Muheez Durosinmi, a Consultant Hematologist and Dr. Olalekan Olasehinde, a Consultant General Surgeon at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The wife of the deceased, Dr.( Mrs) Adegoke Elijah expressed appreciation on behalf of the deceased family, to the entire members of the Nigerian Cancer Society for the love, moral and financial support during this period of grief.
