The Director-General, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mrs. Binta Bello, has reinstated the agency’s dedication to combating Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act Violators.
Mrs. Bello made this known during the close-out event of the VAPP Law implementation in Cross River on Monday, organised by Stand to End Rape.
Represented by Jacob Oba, head of operations, NAPTIP, Cross River Command, Mrs Bello
called for tougher punishment for rape, emphasizing it as a heinous crime against humanity.
Mrs Bello further beckoned for a united front against rape and as well advocated collective efforts to eradicate rape through timely reporting, assisting survivors, providing legal services, and awareness campaigns to reduce stigmatization.
Also speaking at the event, Ms Kwabe highlighted the need to amend the VAPP Act in order to incorporate harsher penalties for perpetrators, rather than repealing it.
On her part, Ann Awa, chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Cross River Chapter, buttressed the essence of fully implementing the VAPP Act across states.
