Naira Scarcity: Embrace Remedy Or Compound Problems

By Udesinanna Stephen, Akubulu Ngozi

As the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has appealed to residents of the state to abide by the Supreme Court ruling by accepting the old notes as a legal tender, it therefore means that we either embrace remedy or compound problems.

They say, when a problem becomes unbearable, you subscribe to the emerging solution provided. This calls us to the trending naira issue in the country that is gradually becoming a compounding problem which requires prompt and realistic solution.

It could be recalled, Roundoffnews reported that, the Governors of the following states: Kaduna, Kogi, Zamfara instituted a legal battle to validate the old naira note, Later, some states joined the suit including Ekiti state.

Hence, the Supreme Court in its March 3rd ruling, extended the validity of the old naira note to 23rd December, 2023.

To support the power of the Supreme Court’s ruling we must understand that there are three tiers of government the Executive, legislature and Judiciary, and according to this political setting, they all possess equal power to check mate each other. When the Federal Government clashes with the State Government, it is the Judiciary that settles them. And in regards to naira scarcity, the Judiciary has taken a stand.

It is worth while to note that, this particular situation cut across all sectors in the country hence, making it a general one and as such, if remedial measures are not taken into consideration or use, it might continue to linger, and on the long run lead to intensive depreciation of our currency, massive inflation in prices of goods and services, causing poverty in all sphere, chaos and some other social and political vices.

As part of the authority effort to aid the masses they have done their parts. Therefore, it would be in the benefit of all if concerned bodies adhere to the legal decision.
