Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has advocated for the adoption of 18 years as the minimum age for university and tertiary institution admission.
He made this known in an interview with Journalists on Monday in Abuja, highlighting the challenges caused by admitting underage students and emphasized the need for maturity in managing affairs.
Mamman, while overseeing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, cautioned parents against pressuring their children excessively, emphasizing the importance of allowing them to attain maturity before pursuing higher education.”
Also, the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed support for the government’s consideration, calling it an improvement. ‘It is the right thing,’ he affirmed.
