May Day: NASU FUOYE Chapter Hails Ekiti Workers, Urges FG to Prioritise Members’ Welfare

By Precious Oham

The Chairman, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, chapter, Comrade Ojumoola Ayodele has hailed workers in the state on the International Workers Day celebration.

Comrade Ayodele, who celebrated workers during the International Workers Day celebration in Ado-Ekiti, on Monday, noted that members of his union have been deprived of their rights as workers.

He regretted that the Federal Government have failed in their duties to address issues of the union which has lingered for years.

Comrade Ayodele called on the incoming government to prioritise the welfare of workers adding that the President-elect should be sensitive to workers plight in the country.

“We return the glory to God. We are alive despite the avalanches of problems in the country that has faced workers in the last one year. We are here celebrating because when you are alive, definitely there is going to be hope for better days.

“We are having avalanches of problems ranging from the way the Federal government is treating us. Recall that we were on strike for about five to six months last year and there was an agreement between our union and SANU and NAT. FG has not addressed a singular one out of those demands and in the interest of the University system we decided not to embark on strike again so that our children will continue their schooling.

“Now that we are in the period of transition, the President-elect should be bold enough to take the bull by the horn to attend to our agitations that are before the government. Tinubu should not toy the part of Buhari.

“The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has not been labour friendly and not been sensitive to workers plights. The President-elect shouldn’t move through the trajectory of old ways of doing things. We want to enjoy the reward of our labour. We are working for the system. Labour ought to be a unique asset to the system. The new government that is coming on board should be responsible to the responsibilities of the workers.”
