Maintain Hygienic Environment…Akinlabi Urges Residents

The Supervisor For Environment in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Hon. Tunde Akinlabi has told residents of the area to prevent the outbreak of cholera by observing hygienic practices.

Akinlabi who made the disclosure on Saturday while monitoring environmental sanitation in each of the Community across the Local Government Area, also urged members of the public to maintain a clean environment.

He said, “Cholera only thrives in unhygienic conditions. Practices, such as open defecation, drinking untreated water from unclean sources, improper disposal of refuse and not washing hands with soap must be stopped”.

He added that the government would continue to sensitising members of the public on the need to adhere hygienic rules.

The Supervisor For Environment who was accompanied by the Head of Department of Environmental, Health and Sanitation, Mrs. Funmi Esan also reiterated the commitment of the Hon. Sola Ogunsina’s administration to embarked on sensitisation measures, including door-to-door campaign round neighbourhoods and markets by environmental sanitation officers and public awareness campaign to the public places and parks.

“We urge members of the public to adhere to the process of ensuring Personal Hygiene, cleanness of environment and facilities such as toilets, bushy areas as well as improper dumping of refuse must be Cheackmated”. He said.

“All tenements and property owners must prevent exposure of refuse; waste should be properly bagged and disposed off through the appropriate waste collector Section” he added.

The Supervisor urged the environmental officers In the Local Government Area to brace up, be up and doing, while also calling on them to make sure people’s surroundings are safe, healthy and hygienic.

Akinlabi who frowned at the inability of some Motorists to adhere strictly to the environmental law of obeying a two hours sanitation and clean up of their environments also urged them to ensure full compliance with the Government’s directive, rules and policies at all times in order not to contravane the provisions of the law.

He urged the environmental officers in the local government to embrace best practices and avoid indolence in carrying out their duties.

Parts of the Communities the Supervisor and his team inspected in the Local Government Area include; Ido-Ekiti, Usi-Ekiti, Ayetoro-Ekiti and Ilogbo-Ekiti.
