Seven Chadian troops have lost their lives as a result of their vehicle’s contact with a landmine in an area controlled by the Boko Haram terrorists and the Islamic State of West Africa Province.
According to President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, several more soldiers were hurt in Monday’s explosion in Tchoukou Telia, in the unrest-plagued Lake Chad area, some 200 kilometres (125 miles) from the capital N’Djamen.,
He said, “While they were patrolling, their vehicle collided with a mine. Several soldiers were injured, and seven soldiers died.”
Following the report from AFP this morning, Deby Itno came to power after his father, Idriss Deby Itno, who governed Chad with an iron grip for over 30 years, passed away in 2021 while battling rebels.
Roundoffnews gathered that On May 6th, Deby Itno will be seeking the presidency, but he won’t have any significant opposition because, over the weekend, officials eliminated 10 candidates, two of whom were strong opponents of the military regime.
It was also gathered that, in the Lake Chad region, the Chadian army frequently kills or captures jihadists, but it also experiences losses, albeit these have significantly diminished in the previous year.
Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, and Chad are all bordered by the large body of water and marshland known as Lake Chad. It has frequently been the target of attacks by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.
